On Monday, November 4th, we gathered as a university community to celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit, officially ushering in a new academic season. This cherished tradition serves as a reminder of our commitment to learning and growth, guided by the wisdom and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. In his address, the university chaplain, Fr Ifeanyi Ogboh, emphasised the importance of honouring others more than ourselves. This involves a twofold commitment:
Firstly, we should acknowledge the superiority of others in various aspects of life, as they possess unique talents and abilities that surpass our own. This humility fosters a spirit of respect and appreciation for diverse perspectives and experiences.
Secondly, we must actively seek opportunities to serve and empower others, particularly those in positions of leadership. By serving our fellow community members, we contribute to their growth and development, ultimately enriching the entire academic environment.
As we navigate the academic year, let us strive to embody these principles and create a community characterised by compassion, collaboration, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge.
