PAU, Strathmore University Lead Discussion on Natural Law and Society

The African Natural Law Conference, co-hosted by Pan-Atlantic University and Strathmore University, took place in August 2024: International Conference on Natural Law and Human Dignity. This conference united leading scholars, professionals, and thought leaders to discuss the importance and application of natural law principles in solving contemporary issues that impact human dignity.

One of the aims of the conference was to highlight the underrated significance of natural law in dealing with complicated societal, ethical, economic, political, legal, and technological issues that confront human society. By examining the relationship between human dignity and natural law, the conference participants set out to develop practical strategies and solutions for protecting human dignity and life in every aspect.

The International Conference on Natural Law and Human Dignity provided a platform for meaningful discussions guided by the keynote speakers: Professor Juan Manuel Elegido, a professor of Business Ethics and former Vice-Chancellor of Pan-Atlantic University, and Professor Juan Carlos Riofrio, a professor of Jurisprudence and Human Rights at Strathmore University Nairobi, Kenya. These keynote speakers, accompanied by other intellectual panelists, invoked thought-provoking conversations and discussions.

The panelists who graced the stage were: Dr. Ikechukwu Obiaya, Dean, SMC. Pan-Atlantic University, Henry Okoede, Senior Manager Strategy & Innovation, MTN Group South Africa, Meg Isibor, Ikechukwu Onuoma (SAN), Managing Partner, Obra Legal, Barr. Nneka Ezeani a Human and Family Values Advocate, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Akinwale who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Augustine University, Prof. Olatunji Oyeshile who is a Professor of Metaphysics and African Philosophy in the University of Ibadan, and other individuals who contributed to the event immensely.

After various papers were presented, a winner emerged and was awarded $100, sponsored by Obra Legal, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the conference. The event concluded in a dinner and award night, celebrating the success of the conference and the achievements of the participants.

As we move forward and anticipate the next edition of the African National Conference, it is essential to continue exploring and investigating the relevance of natural law in addressing global issues and upholding human dignity.
