“The camera is an instrument of knowledge.” – Dorothea Lange. This quote perfectly rang true at the recent showcase of shortlisted photographs for the 2024 Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Arts, Pan-Atlantic University (YSMA) Photography Competition held on our campus. The event showcased the insightful and creative perspectives of our students, who used their cameras to explore and interpret the world around them, specifically the unique environment of our campus.
The competition, open to all PAU students, invited entries showcasing any aspect of campus life. The response was impressive, with a diverse range of submissions that illuminated the architectural beauty, vibrant atmosphere, and often overlooked details of Pan-Atlantic University.
The showcase event began with a warm welcome address, setting the stage for an engaging walk-through. Each participant shared the inspiration behind their work, offering insightful glimpses into their creative processes and the stories they aimed to tell through their images.
The highlight of the event was the announcement of the competition winners. We are delighted to congratulate the following talented individuals:
- 1st Place: Akaninyere Udo-Imeh (100 level Film & Multimedia Studies) – N100,000 Cash Prize
- 2nd Place: Fauzeehat Wahab (100 level Mass Communication) – N80,000 Cash Prize
- 3rd Place: Esther Bewaji (200 level Film & Multimedia Studies) – N60,000 Cash Prize
- People’s Choice Award: Oseneme Anuge (300 level ISMS) – N20,000 Cash Prize
Their photographs were truly exceptional, demonstrating a keen eye for composition, lighting, and storytelling.
