Pan-Atlantic University was proud to host Deep Learning Indaba 2026, one of Africa’s foremost gatherings dedicated to artificial intelligence and machine learning. The conference took place from 2 to 7 August 2026 at the University’s Main Campus, bringing together researchers, students, innovators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and industry leaders from across the continent and beyond.
The year’s theme, “Sovereign Intelligence: Africa’s Path in a Frontier AI World,” underscored a clear continental ambition: building AI systems that were developed in Africa, for Africa. The Indaba emphasised strengthening machine learning capacity, advancing cutting-edge research, and promoting local ownership of data, technology, and AI infrastructure. It called on attendees to address African challenges with African-led solutions rather than imported frameworks that might not have fit local realities.

Hosting the event reinforced Pan-Atlantic University’s longstanding commitment to academic excellence, innovation, entrepreneurship, and the responsible application of technology for societal impact. Throughout the week, the Main Campus became a vibrant hub of collaboration and cultural exchange as delegates from numerous African countries and international institutions converged to share knowledge, forged partnerships and shaped the continent’s AI trajectory.

Members of the University community had a unique opportunity to engage directly with leading AI experts, explore emerging technologies, and contribute to conversations that will influence policy, research agendas, and practical applications across Africa. The conference highlighted the University’s role as a centre of intellectual leadership and a catalyst for inclusive, ethical technological progress.
As Africa assumes an increasingly significant position in the global AI ecosystem, Deep Learning Indaba 2026 served as a powerful reminder that the continent’s strength lies not only in adopting frontier technologies but in creating them. By investing in local talent, advancing indigenous research, and fostering collaborative innovation, Africa is positioning itself to shape an AI future that is inclusive, ethical, and responsive to its unique needs and aspirations.
Pan-Atlantic University is honoured to have served as host institution for this landmark continental event. It extends a warm welcome to all delegates for an inspiring week of learning, collaboration, and innovation.
