At Pan-Atlantic University, students are playing an active role in shaping a more sustainable future through innovative ideas, community engagement and environmental action. At the forefront of student led initiatives is the Living Green Club, a student-led club promoting sustainability awareness and driving meaningful environmental change both on and off campus.
The Living Green Club serves as a community where students can learn about sustainability while taking practical steps to address environmental challenges. Through a variety of projects and campaigns, the club encourages members of the university community to become active participants in creating a more sustainable environment.
Among the club’s initiatives are Green Sweep, a campus-wide clean-up campaign designed to promote environmental responsibility and foster a culture of collective action; Waste Bin Awareness Drives, which educate students and staff on proper waste segregation and responsible waste disposal practices; and Fix It Up Friday, where students learn practical repair, reuse, and resource management skills.
One of the club’s most ambitious and creative projects to date is EcoAlchemy, an art installation constructed using recycled plastic materials, bamboo, wire mesh, and other reclaimed resources. By transforming waste into a visually compelling structure, the project demonstrates how innovative thinking and sustainable design can inspire conversations and action around environmental issues.
The club has collaborated with organisations including Nigerian Breweries, Access Bank, Dangote Group, Green Fingers Wildlife Sanctuary and Nigerian Conservation Foundation, among others. These partnerships provide students with valuable exposure to sustainability leadership, environmental advocacy and real-world approaches to solving pressing environmental challenges.
The club also participated in the launch of the National Ocean Microplastic Monitoring Initiative in partnership with RecycleMe. The initiative aims to strengthen awareness and research efforts surrounding microplastic pollution in Nigeria’s aquatic ecosystems, contributing to broader environmental monitoring and conservation efforts.
Recently, the club launched the Green Innovation Exhibition, a platform to showcase student-led projects designed to address environmental challenges. The exhibition provides students with an opportunity to present innovative solutions, exchange ideas, and demonstrate how creativity and entrepreneurship can contribute to sustainable development.
As Pan-Atlantic University advances its commitment to sustainability, the club serves as an example of how student-driven initiatives can create meaningful impact, inspire behavioural change and contribute to a more sustainable future.
