YSMA at Tate Modern: A Global Milestone for Nigerian Art and Pan-Atlantic University

Pan-Atlantic University is proud to announce a landmark moment in its cultural and academic journey: the Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art (YSMA) has been selected as an institutional lender to Nigerian Modernism, a major exhibition currently on view at Tate Modern, London.

This groundbreaking exhibition — the first of its kind in the UK — explores the evolution of modern art in Nigeria, spotlighting the artists who redefined modernism through African perspectives. YSMA’s contribution includes five iconic works by Nigerian masters: Aina Onabolu, Akinola Lasekan, Yusuf Grillo, Uche Okeke, and Okpu Eze. These works, drawn from the museum’s permanent collection, are now on display at one of the world’s most prestigious art institutions.

This collaboration is a significant milestone not only for YSMA but for Pan-Atlantic University as a whole. It reflects the university’s commitment to excellence, cultural leadership, and global engagement — values that are deeply embedded in its mission to form leaders who will transform society. By contributing to a global conversation on African art history, the university affirms its role as a thought leader and cultural ambassador on the international stage.

For YSMA, this moment underscores its growing reputation as a world-class museum and a custodian of Nigeria’s artistic heritage. It also highlights the museum’s role in fostering cross-cultural dialogue, academic research, and public engagement through art.

As the Nigerian Modernism exhibition continues to draw international attention, Pan-Atlantic University celebrates this achievement as a testament to the power of collaboration, the richness of Nigerian creativity, and the importance of institutions that preserve and promote our shared cultural legacy.
