Background:

Henry Onukwuba is the Director of the HR Academy at Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University (LBS). He holds a DBA (in view) and an Executive MBA from LBS, an MSc in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, a PGD in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, and a BSc in Political Science from the University of Jos. He is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (FCIPM) and the Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM), as well as a Learning and Development Specialist and Certified Behavioural Consultant.

His areas of expertise include leadership, human resource management, human behaviour in organisations, management communication, negotiation, and sports business management.

Henry’s thought leadership focuses on emotional intelligence, employee engagement, the 21st-century workplace, and talent management. His research contributions include a published book on alumni leadership and university–alumni partnerships, as well as book chapters and articles addressing leadership, culture, and organisational effectiveness across Africa.

At LBS, Henry teaches across degree and executive education programmes, including the EMBA, MBA, HR Academy, Owner‑Manager Programme, Senior Manager Programme, Management Acceleration Programme, Global Chief Executive Officer Africa programme, and several customised programmes. He is the Academic Director of Building and Leading the 21st Century Organisation, Refining Your Interpersonal Skills, and the Sports Business Management programmes. He also developed and teaches the Business of Sports, Media and Entertainment (BSME) elective on the MBA, and has mentored and coached executives, teams, and young professionals for many years. He is also a life project facilitator on the MEMBA and MMBA classes

Henry’s industry and policy impact includes leading transformative reforms at the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria. As Chairman of its Education Committee (2021–2024), he expanded examination diets, introduced virtual assessments, reduced result‑processing timelines, revised the syllabus, and championed integrity-enhancing reforms, earning him the CIPM Mega Award for Innovation and Creativity in 2024. He currently chairs the Institute’s Professional Development and Learning Committee, where he led the first international training for HR leaders in over a decade.

Driven by a passion for developing talent and imparting life skills, Henry is active in various leadership and community roles, including serving on the Board of the Onitsha Advancement Foundation and leading leadership training for Lagos Archdiocesan priests. He has also delivered notable keynote addresses, including at the Centenary Celebration of the Onitsha Improvement Union in 2025.

 

Qualification

MSc (with honours) in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Navarre, Spain.

MBA from Lagos Business School; and a PhD in Entrepreneurship and Management from Lancaster University, UK
