Edith Ofor
Dr. Edith Ofor holds Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in Chemistry both from University of Lagos. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry from University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
During her Ph.D. program, Dr. Ofor served as a graduate assistant in Chemistry department of the University of Lagos for 4 years. She was also a research fellow at Pharmacy Department, School of Applied Sciences, University of Wolverhampton, England where her projects involved the isolation and identification of bioactive principles from some Nigerian medicinal plants and testing their extracts for antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory actvities. She gained the World Bank assisted STEP–B (project under ‘The Innovators of Tomorrow’) Award in 2011 and she received the Faculty of Science Best Researcher Award at 4th University of Lagos Research Conference and Fair. She is a certified tutor and a trained STEM teacher.
Dr. Ofor’s research interests include the discovery of novel bioactive compounds from therapeutic natural products especially those used in the management of asthma; activity guided isolation of pure compounds; extraction and analyses of essential oil samples from medicinal plants; modern chromatographic and spectroscopic analyses; chemical and biological screening of products.
Dr. Ofor is a member of Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (MICCON) and Chemical Society of Nigeria (MCSN). She worked as a Chemical Analyst/Marketer with Labstock Nigeria Limited that deals in the supply and sales of analytical/measuring instruments, laboratory equipments and testing of products. Dr. Ofor worked briefly as a facilitator with Centre for Advanced Professional Studies (CIAPS) Lagos before joining Pan Atlantic University.
