Omowumi Ogunyemi
Dr. Omowumi Ogunyemi obtained her first degree in medicine and surgery. She worked as a medical practitioner in Nigerian hospitals before her post-graduate studies in Philosophy. She holds a licentiate degree (masters) and a doctorate in philosophy (Anthropology and Ethics - with summa cum laude) from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Rome. She attended the International School of interdisciplinary research in Rome (Scuola Internazionale Superiore per la Ricerca Interdisciplinare, SISRI) and won the 2014 DISF award (Documentazione Interdisciplinare di Scienza & Fede) for best interdisciplinary research paper. She was a finalist for the Expanded Reason Awards, 2018.
She currently teaches philosophical anthropology, peace studies, conflict resolution and general ethics, life skills and personal effectiveness, and contemporary issues in health. She also facilitates sessions on implications and applications of ethics and philosophical anthropology for professionals in various fields.
Her areas of research interests include interdisciplinary studies between philosophy (anthropology and ethics) and practical sciences. Some specific topics include - Virtue theories; the temporal experience of humans and narrative self-understanding; self-development, self-leadership, and character-building over time; the philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience of character strengths and virtues, and their relationship to narratives, etc.
She has presented academic papers at various international conferences. She is a member of the Humanistic Management Network, the International Society for MacIntyrean Enquiry. She is also an affiliate faculty for Christopher Kolade Center for Research in Leadership and Ethics (Lagos Business School) and the Markets Culture and Ethics Center in Rome.
