In 2024, Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) took a bold step in promoting sustainable development and enhancing campus welfare through its commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 6 — ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
As part of this initiative, PAU provided free drinking water to all staff and students across the campus, distributing a total of 8,016 bottles, which amounted to 152,304 litres of clean water throughout the year. This effort was not only a response to the growing need for accessible hydration but also a reflection of the University’s dedication to health, inclusion, and environmental responsibility.
To make this possible, the University strategically installed 21 water dispensers across all major buildings on campus. These dispensers ensured that clean, safe drinking water was always within reach, reducing the need for single-use plastic bottles and encouraging a culture of sustainability.
This initiative significantly improved the quality of life on campus, offering a practical solution to water access while reinforcing PAU’s role as a leader in sustainable education. By integrating clean water provision into its daily operations, the University demonstrated how institutions can actively contribute to global goals while directly benefiting their communities.
Pan-Atlantic University remains committed to expanding this programme and continuing its efforts toward a greener, healthier future. The 2024 milestone stands as a testament to what can be achieved when innovation, care, and sustainability come together.
In addition to improving water access, Pan-Atlantic University applies water-efficient building standards to further conserve this essential resource. All restrooms across campus are fitted with pressure taps, which release water only when activated and automatically shut off after use. This system ensures controlled flow, eliminates unnecessary wastage, and aligns with the University’s broader environmental management practices.
